Personal Statement #3

An Introduction to
the Scientific Evidence for

The AfterLife

September 28, 2008

My dear Aunt Helen tells the story of something Grandma Becker (P.S. #16) said on her deathbed.

Grandma was fading in and out, would lapse into unconsciousness but then become somewhat lucid.

Upon one of her returns, she indicated that she had just been on the Other Side - but, also, with a certain tone of incredulity and surprise, reported to the family around her bed that she had seen Uncle Wendlin as a member of her receiving party.

"Even Uncle Wendlin is there!!"

I will explain in a forthcoming article why Grandma's statement is so funny to our family. For now, I'll just say that our dear Uncle Wendlin, Grandpa's older brother, was an eccentric bachelor farmer.

The AfterLife is real!

There is no death! only transition to another dimensional state of being.

Your departed loved ones live on and are presently involved in your life.

Not a Matter of “Belief” ... but
Objective, Corroborated, Empirically-Based Evidence

  • “There is a great body of evidence which, taken as a whole, absolutely and unqualifiedly proves the case for the afterlife... This evidence would be technically admissible in the Supreme Court of the United States, the House of Lords in England, the High Court of Australia and in every civilized legal jurisdiction around the world.” Victor Zammit, retired attorney of the Supreme Court of the New South Wales and the High Court of Australia.

Many of us have not visited Russia, but we are confident there is such a place; none of us personally knew Abraham Lincoln, but only the daft would question his existence. On what basis can we be certain of these things? Evidence! Corroborated, objective, empirically-based evidence. And you will discover that there is a mountain of hard-core evidence substantiating the reality of the AfterLife!

As Sir Oliver Lodge, renowned British physicist, knighted for his pioneering work in electricity and the radio, said many years ago, it was not any single case or communication that convinced him of ultimate survival, but rather, the cumulative evidence - you will find there is a great deal of that!

StarTrek, Generations (1994) - Guinan describes the Nexus as a place where one can inhabit joy; where one's unfulfilled dreams come true. It is likely that the writers of this entertaining movie knew something of a very real Realm known as Summerland. You will learn more about this port-of-entry to the Next World in Personal Statements #7, 20, 63.

This Has Nothing To Do With Religion

For thousands of years institutional religion has had us believe that it, alone, is the gatekeeper to the AfterLife. You will find that such power-posturing is illusion. The AfterLife is the unavoidable destination of all – atheist, agnostic, and religionist. Just as one’s birth is not a religious event, per se, so it is with the day of one’s departure from this world and entrance to the next – a very natural process that cannot be stopped.

What Is This Thing We Call Death?

It’s something like this.

Think of a common radio dial. Tune into the station at the 550 reading and listen to the music. Now, move on to the 610 setting for the news. As we spin the dial, does the 550 station cease to exist? Is it "dead"? No one would suggest this because we understand that the radio waves associated with 550 undulate at a different frequency relative to 610 - and once we tune into the higher wave band, 550 effectively becomes “invisible” to us - it's still there, of course, but we can't access it until we tune in again.

The room in which you are presently reading this page is filled with all manner of electromagnetic energy waves: radio, x-ray, gamma, visible light, etc., etc. - but your five senses can access only a small fraction of that great mass of energy-soup!

So, too, the Spirit World is all around us, but normally we cannot access or see it. The Spirit World is like the 610 radio setting when our mortal world, and our five senses, are stuck at 550 – we can’t access 610 when we are tuned into 550!

  • What we, from our mortal perspective, call “death,” is, so to speak, simply a shift in frequency from this mortal shell, which vibrates at 550, to a newly-released inner energy life, which vibrates at 610!

What I have just described is no mere analogy but is very close to the truth. The bodies of spirit entities are invisible to us because the energy of which they are composed is of a finer nature and vibrates at a higher frequency than that of our heavier-matter mortal bodies.

I would like you to know that my findings regarding the AfterLife are not mere flippant comments but based on extensive research - I have read nearly 200 books on this subject, listened to over 100 taped interviews/testimonials, and continue to seek information here every week. In the face of this substantial corpus of information, a very few of these sources would I recommend - but one that you must read is Michael Newton's Journey of Souls.   Dr. Newton is a counseling psychologist who helped pioneer a method of hypnotically regressing clients to a point between lives - after death, but before birth; in other words, he helped patients access hidden memories about their lives on the Other Side. His books represent a distillation of 7000 interviews and 30 years of work. Allow me to summarize the essence: It doesn't matter whether one is an atheist, an agnostic, a Catholic, Protestant, or whatever - under hypnosis, all speak of and describe the same place! the same general process regarding spirit life! Newton remarks: "People even use the same words and graphic descriptions ... when discussing the [Other Side]."

See this youtube interview of Dr. Newton.

Why Don’t More People Know About the Evidence?

You will discover that scores of scientists, many of them among the most renowned of history, have not only accepted the evidence for the AfterLife but have been, and are, actively engaged in research in this area.

There are always skeptics. Doubt and questioning is part of the scientific process and is a good thing. But there are those who pose as fair-minded skeptics but, in reality, are materialists – those who feign objectivity before cameras  - but will not accept AfterLife research information in any case.

Why The Hostility To Psychic Science?

Simply stated:  vested interests.

Consider the implications. Hard-core materialist scientists would have to admit that their reductionist view of the universe is in error. How many would be willing to admit that a life’s work was built on a bed of sand? And unscrupulous church politicians would have to admit that they are not, after all, the gatekeepers of heaven. This would be bad news for them, bad for business, as threats of hell and expulsion from heaven have been a way to control, and gain profit from, the ignorant masses for millennia.

Michael Tymn reports:

  • I recently discussed the resistance of academia to survival evidence with Dr. Stafford Betty, professor of religious studies at California State University, Bakersfield...   "My atheistic friends resist even the slightest whiff of an argument for an afterlife," Professor Betty told me.  "I have not seen more closed minds.  Why is this?  Why would anyone resist such good news - the kind of news strongly supported by serious, in-depth research on the NDE, for example? I think I know. It is not so much that my hard-bitten friends hate the thought of living beyond death; what they hate is religion.  And they associate religion with the afterlife. It doesn't matter how hard you try to convince them that the contemporary case for afterlife is not based on sacred texts, but on empirical studies conducted by well-credentialed social scientists or doctors.  It doesn't matter. Their minds are set. Also, the older generation (in their 70s and 80s) grew up hearing that the only things that were real were material. Changing their minds on that score would threaten their very identity. So they bravely move toward death, trying not to think about it, and gritting their teeth when they have to. I think the young are less invested in metaphysical materialism than the elderly. Their minds are slightly more open, if only because of the barrage of Hollywood films set in an afterlife."

Editor's note: See P.S. #19 for a discussion on distorted personal identity, why it's easily threatened, and how its resultant misperception affects everything we do.

  • Raymond Moody, MD: "For although it certainly seems possible in some cases to show how the features of the experience touch upon unresolved conflicts in the mind of the experiencer, it is just as true that certain features of the psychological 'explanation' of an unusual experience may derive from, or otherwise reflect, unresolved conflicts in the mind of the explainer. Hence, if one is going to dismiss someone else's experience because it can be seen to reflect that experiencer's psychological hang-ups, one seems equally obliged to dismiss a person's attempt to explain away the experience, if that explanation can be seen to reflect the explainer's own psychological hang-ups."

  • Professor Deborah Blum: "A century ago, roughly between 1885 and 1925, some distinguished scholars and scientists conducted some very thorough investigations of mediums. Their objective was to determine if spirits were really communicating through the mediums and, concomitantly, whether consciousness survives bodily death.  Almost without exception, they came to the same conclusion: that spirit communication was real and that consciousness does survive physical death.  The few exceptions accepted that certain mediums were not charlatans; they simply didn't know what to make of it and sat on the fence to protect themselves from ridicule by their closed-minded colleagues, who felt it was beneath their dignity to consider such foolishness... I see modern scholars and scientists aping those 'closed-minded colleagues' of yesteryear and their ancient ancestors.... A recent example of what I am talking about is a comment in TIME Magazine by Steven Pinker, a Harvard University psychologists, that 'attempts to contact the souls of the dead' by scientists of a century ago 'turned up only cheap magic tricks.' Having thoroughly studied the research done by those psychical researchers of a century ago, I find it difficult to believe that anyone could make such a statement, unless he or she hasn't really dug into the material and is simply suffering from the aping syndrome, the tendency to want to look bright and not foolish by smirking, scoffing, and sneering at things that are beyond the grasp of current science."

The Most Important Information of Your Life

There is much to learn here. I would encourage you to investigate this most treasured of information for the rest of your time in this world.

  • AfterLife entities tell us that it is very important for us to learn as much as possible about the Other Side – the more we know, the easier will be our transition, the faster will be our progress there. We are informed by these Guides and Advisors that so many, even most, people enter the AfterLife in a woeful condition of fear, confusion, and disorientation, causing them to delay their progress, retarding their growth, setting them back, for years - in some cases, hundreds of years! This malady, however, is a treatable disease; indeed, a preventable one, as knowledge will smooth the way for you and give you confidence. We will find that the AfterLife offers us incredibly wonderful opportunities for personal development; for love - even romantic love; for learning; for adventure and exploration; for enjoying beauty and the fine arts; and for service to others... but... no one will force you to do anything... you must be ready to receive... in all matters, your own choices will rule!

The World of Spirit, those of that realm are quick to assert, is the “real” and substantial world, while ours, they say, is one of shadows and forms, a mere training ground. Learning about our "true home" will transform your present life.

The best, the most comprehensive, source of information about the AfterLife is offered by Victor Zammit’s website, A Lawyer Presents The Case For The AfterLife. Victor is a retired lawyer who now devotes his time to publishing the latest scientific research regarding the AfterLife. He offers a $1 million award to anyone who can refute the evidence for the Next World - this offer has been extant for many years and no one has been able to collect.

Victor explains: "THE OBJECTIVE EVIDENCE FOR THE AFTERLIFE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PERSONAL BELIEF! On this site you will get to know the findings of many scientists, empiricists, and other professionals who systematically investigated the afterlife and psychic phenomena for more than a century. AND you will get to know with absolute certainty that everyone survives death. The afterlife is inevitable and has huge consequences."

Rev. Dr. George M. Searle, Rector, Catholic Church of St. Paul, New York City: "The reality of the existence of spirits ... is no longer an open question, even among scientific men who have examined the subject. Anyone who considers the manifestation of them as mere humbug, trickery or delusion is simply not up to date."

Dr. Fred Hoyle: “When science begins the study of non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the centuries of its experience.”

Dr. Albert Einstein: "It is entirely possible that behind the perception of our senses, worlds are hidden of which we are unaware."

  • Editor's note, May 30, 2009: Yesterday, I posted a note featuring a message I received, via psychic-medium Norma (Personal Statement # 25), from two departed friends (P.S. # 20, 23). Today, a reader sent to me this response [names changed to preserve anonymity]:
Hi, Wayne, That is absolutely amazing, the manner in which Felix "communicated" with you... I am going to share with you a mind-blowing encounter that I experienced with one of my good friend's boyfriends who passed away over 2 years ago... Here it is: My good friend, Sarah, had a boyfriend named Bruce, who had been ill for a number of weeks... The doctors told him that he had congestive heart failure. His condition continued to deteriorate until he succumbed to his illness. Needless to say, Sarah was devastated... Now for the "mind-blowing" part: I didn't know yet that Bruce had died, not until the next day. However, that very night that he passed away, I smelled cigar smoke VERY STRONGLY. I kept asking everyone around me, "Do you smell that cigar smoke?" No one else smelled it. Only me. I dismissed it as being "all in my mind, I guess." Then came the night of Bruce's funeral: Once again, cigar smoke filled the air, so strong that my eyes felt as if they were burning. And once again, NO ONE else could smell it. I was starting to get very spooked by this, but, again, I dismissed it as being nothing, since no one else could smell it. Then, two nights later, I was lying in bed, fully awake when Bruce appeared before me with a message: He said, "I want you to tell Sarah how I REALLY died: But first, the reason you were smelling cigar smoke was because I wanted to give you a kind of  hint: The hint is this: Take the word cigars and rearrange the letters from back to front, minus 2 letters, and then, well, you'll know how to take it from there. When you figure it out, tell Sarah that this was the cause of my death." And he was gone. I did as he asked, and the word was  "ARSENIC." I was so shocked and taken off guard, but the next day, I told Sarah. It was very awkward to approach this with her, but I told her about this message from Bruce, and asked her if she knew of anyone who might have poisoned him. She said "No," but she couldn't get it out of her head. Six months later, Sarah came to my house, crying, and between sobs told me that she found out that the person that she and Bruce had been living with for months (during his entire "illness") had killed her parents with arsenic, and that she was arrested for this. There was enough evidence to prove that this was true. Sarah said she then KNEW that this girl poisoned Bruce with arsenic. This girl had been preparing Bruce's meals when Sarah was out. Sad, isn't it? Anyway, that was ALL the proof I'll ever need that people can communicate with the "dead." I'll never forget that night, the night of "Bruce's message." Just wanted to share this with you. There are very few people who know about this, but you are definitely one who could understand this.

Testimony of an AfterLife Entity: “To die is not tragic. To live in your world is tragic. To see the garden of the Great Power chocked with the weeds of selfishness and greed and avarice, that is tragedy. To die is to enjoy freedom of the spirit, which has been imprisoned behind the bars of the material body. Is it tragic to be released from suffering, for the soul to come into its own? Is it tragic to see wonders of color, to hear music that does not belong to material expression? Do you call it tragic to express yourself in a body that has not pain, to be able to roam all over the world of matter in a flash and to taste the beauties of the spirit of life too?”

Professor James Hyslop: This professor of logic and ethics from Columbia University, a most obdurate closed-minded skeptic who for many years disseminated much anti-psychic propaganda, eventually conceded to the genuineness of Mrs. Piper's mediumship. He founded the American Society for Psychical Research and wrote seven books on the evidence for survival Science and a Future Life (1906); Borderland of Psychical Research (1906); Enigmas of Psychical Research (1906); Psychical Research and the Resurrection (1908); Psychical Research and Survival (1913); Life After Death (1918) and Contact with the Other World (1919).

In Life After Death (1918) he famously wrote:

"I regard the existence of discarnate spirits as scientifically proved and I no longer refer to the sceptic as having any right to speak on the subject. Any man who does not accept the existence of discarnate spirits and the proof of it is either ignorant or a moral coward. I give him short shrift, and do not propose any longer to argue with him on the supposition that he knows anything about the subject."

Professor Richet, winner of a Noble Prize for Physiology: How many times have you heard it glibly stated, "Well, nobody has ever come back from the dead to tell us"... This is all manifest ignorance, and, on the part of some, willful blindness, as thousands, millions, have come back from the Other Side to offer comfort, inspiration, and evidence of the AfterLife. Dr. Richet, as a life's work, studied materialization and writes of the phenomena in his book Thirty Years of Psychical Research: "I shall not waste time in stating the absurdities, almost the impossibilities, from a psycho-physiological point of view, of this phenomenon. A living being, or living matter, formed under our eyes, which has its proper warmth, apparently a circulation of blood, and a physiological respiration which has also a kind of psychic personality having a will distinct from the will of the medium, in a word, a new human being! This is surely the climax of marvels. Nevertheless, it is a fact."

Testimony of an AfterLife Entity: “There is not in your world one artist who could capture with his paints some of the glories of my world. There is not one musician who could record some of the glories of the music sphere with your notes. There is not one writer who could describe in physical words the beauty of parts of this world … We have flowers such as you have never seen, we have colors such as your eye has never beheld, we have scenes and forests, we have birds and plants, we have streams and mountains. You have nothing to compare them with. And you will be able to enjoy them.”

Dr. Frederic W. H. Myers: speaking from the AfterLife via Geraldine Cummins: "It is not so much what you will find when you come to this side of life as what you will bring with you... Bring all of your soul treasures - you will need them, your culture, your love of art, of music - all this you will use... material possessions you will not need... We are undisguised, for [it will be plain to all] whatever we have gained in culture, love for humanity, charity, selflessness, energy and force, ambitions for the sake of others - all this is here waiting for us when we are given ... our Price, our Wage, whatever we have earned during our years of apprenticeship... The reality [of The AfterLife] is infinitely more wonderful than our most daring conjectures. Indeed, no conjecture is sufficiently daring." Editor's note: These final words of Myers strike me as utterly provocative!

Dr. Leslie Weatherhead: "Think of Frederic W. H. Myers saying, through a reputable medium like Geraldine Cummins, 'If only I could tell you what [the AfterLife is] like; I just haven't the words to tell you how marvelous it is; the sense of beauty, the sense of freedom, the sense of love' ..."

  • Editor's note: this above reference to the words of F.W.H. Myers in the AfterLife always stops me short, no matter how many times I read it: "the sense of beauty, the sense of freedom, the sense of love" - incredible! By the way, you will want to read about Myers, who, before his passing, was a professor of classical languages. He used this skill in a most ingenious plan, one executed while in the AfterLife, to offer some of the most convincing evidence of the reality of that realm! Read about it on Victor's site, a chapter in his free book: The Myers Cross-Correspondences.

A final thought for you:

The single most provocative statement in my collection from AfterLife persons might be this one:

  • "I'm not allowed to tell you too much about what it's like over here, because some of you might try to end your mortal lives just to get here a little faster."

These words alone should suggest to you the transcendent wonders of the AfterLife - and why you'll want to know more about this subject.
